You've Got A Friend In Me

Trent and Michelle Vruggink

You've got a friend

Michelle Vruggink was standing in line at a Newberry craft store when the gal in front of her asked the clerk if she knew of any newcomer’s clubs in the area.
“I asked her, ‘Are you looking for a job?’ and she said, ‘No, I’m looking for friends,’” Michelle recalled.
It turns out it was quite a fateful meeting for the two women. Michelle and Courtney became fast friends and met for lunch a few times when Courtney told her she had someone she’d like her to meet, her husband’s best friend, Trent.
Trent and Michelle, who are featured on the cover of this issue of the Wedding Guide, were married June 16, 2007, in Newberry. Vruggink had proposed on Feb. 12, 2006, with the assistance of Michelle’s Dalmation, Molly.
“He tied the ring to her collar, in a box, and when I got up in the morning she greeted me with it around her neck,” Michelle recalled.
The two wed in front of about 300 guests at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, on the day that her parents celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. Michelle and Trent hired Noah Grieves, of Noah’s Ark Studio in Petoskey, to take their wedding photographs. Grieves is a long-time friend of the family and he and Michelle went to high school together in Newberry.
After celebrating their one-year anniversary this summer, the Vrugginks are settling into married life in Newberry, where Trent, 38, owns Action Glass, an automotive glass installation business, and Michelle, 27, is the office manager for Newberry Motors.
“It’s been a great first year,” she added.
